This course is perfect for beginners looking for a bit more of a challenge, and for those with some previous experience in silversmithing who are looking to further their knowledge.
This is a 4 week course where you'll be making a silver band ring with rub over setting with a stone of your choice. You will learn how to cut, file, form, anneal, solder, pre-finish, polish and set a cabashon stone using a rub over setting. Your tutor will guide you through the course using a series of demonstrations, hand-outs and answering any questions you might have about your individual practice.
Session 1: Make a Copper mount.
You will be introduced to the workshop so that you become familiar with the tools, machines and materials that you will be working with. Using copper you will make a practice mount to learn and hone the skills of mount making.
Session 2: Make a Silver mount.
You will choose a stone for your ring and make a final mount in Silver to fit your stone.
Session 3: Make a Silver band ring.
By the end of this session you will have learnt how to size a ring, cut, file, anneal, solder and form your silver into a band ring.
Session 4: Set your Stone
During the last session you will learn how to set, pre- finish and polish your ring ready to take home.
